Nurses, midwives and health visitors
Entry requirements
Practitioners must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Introductory training -
leading to the qualification LFHom (Nurse) or LFHom (Midwife)
These courses enable nurses, midwives and health visitors to gain an understanding of homeopathy and to enable them to give informed guidance to patients and relatives. The homeopathic approach can enhance nursing and reinforce the nurse's traditional values of good patient care. It can help with the development of a therapeutic relationship.
Further training for nurses -
leading to the qualification MFHom (Nurse)
These courses for nurses aim to:
- Provide advanced instruction in all aspects of homeopathic theory and practice.
- Develop students’ research and auditing skills to enable contribution to the growing body of knowledge in homeopathy.
- Improve the standard of health in society and the therapeutic options available to patients by training nurses to become skilled homeopathic practitioners working within a homeopathic setting or within their core discipline.
- Enable nurses to discuss the discipline of homeopathy knowledgeably with colleagues to promote its use alongside conventional medicine.
- Facilitate the award of a higher qualification to raise the profile of homeopathic nursing.
Secure professional development and career advancement opportunities according to individual requirements. This may involve undertaking educational modules outside the expertise of the Faculty of Homeopathy and its accredited teaching centres. These modules must be provided through an accredited university that has expertise in educating nurses.
If an MFHom(Nurse) wishes to prescribe homeopathic remedies then they will have successfully undertaken the Independent Nurse Prescribing module. He/she will then be able to prescribe homeopathic remedies with the exclusion of those unauthorised for prescribing, outlined in the MFHom(Nurse) curriculum guidelines (available by request from the Academic Office).
