VSA CONSULT RESPONSE
The Faculty has submitted an extensive and robust response to the consultation on reform of the Veterinary Surgeons Act, welcoming modernisation while warning that some proposals could place properly qualified veterinary surgeons at disproportionate regulatory risk for using homeopathy and other therapeutic approaches. Our response argues that reform must remain proportionate, evidence-aware and focused on demonstrable harm, while protecting clinical freedom, informed consumer choice, fair regulation of allied professionals and independent oversight of the veterinary
regulator.

The Veterinary Surgeons Act is being reviewed, and a consultation is urgently required today!
HOW TO RESPOND
Some significant changes are proposed — but many of us only realised the potential impact quite recently, and time is running short.
Two key proposals:
Regulation of all “Allied Veterinary Services” — including chiropractic, farriery, animal behaviourists and others (potentially many more).
Replacing the current disciplinary system with a “Fitness to Practise” licence, where loss of licence could be decided on the civil standard of proof (“balance of probabilities”) rather than the criminal standard (“beyond reasonable doubt”).
