How did you start your journey in Homeopathy practice?

During my medical education, I became intrigued by certain non-conventional ideas about health and disease. After some research, I decided to embark on the long course at the Faculty of Homeopathy.

In 1977–78, I studied for one academic year at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital, fully immersed in lectures and consultations led by the teachers of that time. I was profoundly impressed by their inspiring stories and remarkable results, a team under the guidance of Dr. Margery Blackie.

Back in Belgium, from the very beginning of my practice, I felt completely confident in offering homeopathic treatment as a complementary approach to my patients.

How do you integrate Homeopathy in your professional practice?

My offering of homeopathy as an option was met with great enthusiasm by my patients. The good results - sometimes spectacular - led to referrals from patients, colleagues, and university hospitals.

At the time, in the 1980s, there was a very positive collaboration between conventional and non-conventional health care providers. Offering the best of both worlds to every patient seemed self-evident to everyone. This was a precursor of the entire concept of Integrative Medicine, which is now being developed more and more, including by the World Health Organization.

A conventional diagnosis and prognosis provide the guiding framework within which the desirability and potential of homeopathy can be evaluated. Still today, I begin every treatment with a 90’ intake consultation, aiming to first understand the complete story of the patient.

The time invested in this process is repaid many times over later on and sets the direction for success, also in difficult cases.
